Top 5 Show Challenge (as of 2012)

Top 5 Challenge

Pick your top 5 shows and answer the following questions. Don’t cheat.

1. Game of Thrones

2. Boardwalk Empire

3. The Walking Dead

4. True Blood

5. Parks and Recreation

1. Who is your favorite character in 2?

Jimmy. By far. Great character. Was cruel but awesome, and a total badass.  His scenes were always the best and he always created the best tension where you never knew what would happen next. (Spoiler Alert*) Unfortunately he had to be killed off in the past season, I guess because of the historical context of the show and the fact that he couldn’t co-exist in same environment as Nucky (The main character).  At least he died like a man, and he was a war hero.

2. Who is your least favorite character in 1?

King Geoffery of House Baratheon. Where to start with this chump? He kills the best/main character of the first novel/season in Ned Stark (played by the my hero, the legendary Sean Bean), ruins everything at Kings Landing (even giving his own house, the Lannisters, a headache), and he is a child of incest. So pretty much, I will look forward to his death.

3. What’s your favorite episode of 4?:

The season finale of Season 2 was my favorite episode.  The whole town of Bon-Temps goes to shit, and it is just after Godric kills himself like a badass, and Snooki and Bill return to town only to find the cluster-fuck it has become.  Jason tries to save the day and has a hilarious speech, and basically everyone is screwed but Sam, my favorite character saves the day.  Already the target of that crazy demi-god Maryann, he sacrifices himself, getting stabbed and all that good stuff, only to be revived by bill and rip out Maryann’s heart like a badass, and then once she dies the whole town wakes up wondering what the fuck happened. Only Sookie, Bill and Sam really know, and it is a great end to the best season of the series in my opinion.  A weird season, but hella awesome nonetheless.

4. What is your favorite season of 5?

Either this current season or the last.  I love Ben and Leslie together and April and Andy, two of the best couples on tv. Andy himself is hilarious by just being alive, and I love seeing April mature somewhat.  I also think it is interesting how the “straight man” of the series in Ben dates the protagonist. The plot, writing, and overall comedy really stepped up recently on the show, making it one of my favorites by far.

5. What’s your favorite relationship in 3?:

Glenn & anybody.  Besides from Rick, Glenn is by far my favorite character.  Many characters get on my nerves (probably are meant to), or have so many negative qualities. Glenn is young, funny, optimistic, resourceful, but also very real and full of heart, and he seems to brighten any situation with his subtle awkwardness and openness to help.

6. Who is your anti relationship in 2?:

Eli and Nucky, how that shit has gone downhill.  Eli really screwed the pooch multiple times this season, which I hated to see, and he also tried to screw over (and almost kill) Nucky his own brother.  It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

7. How long have you watched 1?:

Well the second season starts April 1st so there has not been room to watch for that long.  However it sparked my interest immediately, and I have been hooked ever since I saw it, even though I got into watching it a few months after the first season ended.

8. How did you become interested in 3?:

Promotion of it, and the mere fact it is about zombies sparked my interest.  I had heard of the comics before, but didn’t really put it together that they were connected till I saw it.  The visuals from the early scenes and commercials were very iconic and striking that I was hooked immediately.

9. Who is your favorite actor in 4?:

Sam Tremmel or Nelsen Ellis have to be my favorite actors of True Blood. Sam is great at playing a guy with a dark past trying to live a good life (which for the most part he does and with a clean conscience), while Nelsen is the greatest at giving life and charisma to his unique and awesome character Lafayette.

10. Which show do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5?:

Seeing how I have been

11. Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3?

12. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?:

13. How would you kill off your favorite character in 1?

14. Would a 3/4 crossover work?:

15. Pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple:

16. Over all, which show has a better cast, 3 or 5?

17. Which has better theme music, 2 or 4?:

My 25 Favorite Songs of the Year

I put a lot of thought into this list and order and may have left out some great songs. Based order on catchiness, replay value and how it personally makes me feel. By the way I know nothing about music.

25.) Sadness is a Blessing - Lykke Li

Wonderful song. Great lyrics and beautifully sung. She sounds like The Crystals to me in this song.

24.) Tongue Tied - Grouplove

Catchy, fun, and addicting. high replay value. Only bad thing is that stupid part where the girl sings.  Nevertheless it has one of the best lyrics of any song this year.

23.) Got it All - Portugal. the Man

Best song on the album by far.  Very catchy and hypnotic and its a classic song by them.

22.) A Chore - Tom Vek

I love the atmospheric sound of Tom Vek, and his voice goes perfectly with it.  Good baseline in to go with a great melody.  Would definitely get radio play if more people knew about Tom Vek.

21.) Codex - Radiohead

Hauntingly beautiful song and very underrated.  Makes you sort of somber but is still great to listen to.  Thom Yorke’s words never get old.

20.) Get it Daddy - Sleeper Agent

I heard this one on the radio one day and ran home immediately to find out who it was. Catchy and Sassy.  I love the combination of the guy and girl’s vocals, sick stuff.

19.) Yonkers - Tyler the Creator

Nothing really has to be said about Tyler and OF.

18.) Novacane - Frank Ocean

Another OF track. Wasn’t so sure if I liked this track at first, but seems to get better with each listen.

"Swim Good" "Strawberry Swing" and "We All Try" by Ocean are just as good as this song.

17.) Young Blood - The Naked & Famous

No, this isn’t Passion Pit, but they sound a lot like them, and that is not a bad thing. I’m not even sure it is there best song by them, but it is too catchy to keep off. Great summer song.

See Also: “The Sun” and “Punching in a dream”

16.) Cathode Girls - Com Truise

This song has the gnarliest synths I’ve ever heard, and the drums and bass make it pure badassery.  Reminds me a lot of Washed Out and Ryan Gosling. Yepp.

15.) The Morning - The Weekend

Yes. I put an R & B song on this list. I shit you not The Weekend is amazing.  The Weekend goes ham here.  Great lyrics, great chorus, hard to stop listening to.

14.) Queen of Hearts - Fucked Up

A good old punk rock jam.  Fucked Up’s album “David Comes to Life” is a real gem. If you are into that of course. Check it out yo.

13.) Alex - Girls

This album is so good it was hard to pick one song to put on this list, but I had to. Definitely my favorite. I love the range of it. Whatever “range” means.

12.) Ffunny Ffriends - Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Saw these guys live without ever hearing them and they really impressed me. Dumb luck. Fun songs with a kind of lo-fi nostalgic feel. Another album where its hard to pick one song but this is definitely their standout.

Also see: “How Can U luv me” and “Little Blue House”

11.) Wait & See - Holy Ghost!

Another 80’s throwback that is fun and knows it is.  Love the melody so much. Groovy shit.

10.) Amor Fati - Washed Out

I love everything about Washed Out, his catchiness and style appeal to me so much its hard to dislike any of his songs.  While not as good as Life of Leisure, Within and Without is a great debut album. But who gives a shit either way.  So many great songs, all beautiful and easy on the ears. If you don’t like Washed Out, to quote Fred Durst, “you get knocked the fuck out”.

Also see: “Eyes be Closed” and “You and I”

9.) Siberia - Lights

Opening song from the album that is also my favorite and sets the tone for the rest of the album. Lights got pretty experimental in this album but still has that beautiful singing voice.  Lots of good tunes on this album. Love it.

8.) Lorelai - Fleet Foxes

Fleet Foxes makes albums where any song could be considered its best. But it is the kind of music you have to be in the mood to listen to. But to me Lorelai stands out because of its pure beauty. Good stuff yo.

See Also: “Grown Ocean”

7.) Ice Cream - Battles

This song is just pure awesomeness.  Battles is like nothing else out there but you don’t have to know them to find this song catchy and fun. The buildup alone is something to behold, and then that awesome riff on the synth lets you know how great and sexy the next 4 minutes will be. If you don’t find this sexy, you’ll still be bobbing your head to this unless you fucking suck.

6.) The Words that Maketh Murder - PJ Harvey

Ive always loved and respected PJ Harvey ever since her 92’ album Dry.  This is a very different album than she’s put out before in some ways I think, and this is her best song in a while. This song is pretty depressing though. Is it better than Battle’s Ice Cream? I think so, but thats just because the level it depressed me to.  I love songs that affect me emotionally, whether it is positive or negative.

5.) Quarantine - MuteMath

From my favorite album of the year. Was my hardest choice because the whole album is great.  Picked this one because although not as catchy as some of the singles, its a lot of fun to listen to and brings out all of MuteMath’s best qualities. They go hard as hell in this song and it makes you have to respect their efficiency and pure talent.  Also has a great change in the dynamic of the song half way through that really adds to it. Got damn.

Also See: “All of Nothing” “Walking Paranoia” “Blood Pressure” and “One More”

4.) Dive - Tycho

May have the highest replay value for me of any song on this list.  So beautiful and classic Tycho, and really brings out a lot of the Boards of Canada qualities about his style that first attracted me to his music. Definitely the highlight of the album along with “The Daydream”.

See Also: “The Daydream”

3.) I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl - Wavves

I knew Wavves was awesome the first time I ever heard King of the Beach, but this is definitely the best and most fun song he has made so far.  It is random as hell and came out of nowhere, but ill take it bro.

2.) Hawaiian Air - Friendly Fires

One of my favorite bands the last few years and favorite albums of the year.  Every track brings something special but I just love the dynamic of this song more than any other. Reminds me of my all time favorite track by them “Jump in the pool”.  The classic funky beat and bass line, then the synthy catchy chorus.  Such a great combo. Their style is not for everyone and could be mistaken as too poppy, but that talk is just for fools.

1.) Midnight City - m83

What can be said about this song other than it is the best song I’ve heard all year.  This song gets you into it the first moment it starts and you don’t leave the moment until its done.  Impossible not to dance to and it is super catchy.  Along with Pala and Odd Soul, probably one of my favorite albums this year.  Anthony Gonzales is another artist who’s style and melodies really relate to me and are easy on the ears.  SO EPIC.

See Also: “Intro” “Reunion” “New Map” “Ok, Pal” & “Raconte Moi une Histoire”

Thats my list folks. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
